Farewell Te Huarahi Tika Trust and Hautaki

After serving a 3.5 year term on Te Huarahi Tika Trust and 3 years on its commercial arm Hautaki Limited, I tendered my resignation at the previous AGM (November 2015) to take effect April 01 2016.

As with any Māori organisation there are rumors and scaremongering among our own. So I thought I would take this unrestricted opportunity to express my thoughts and thanks to the members of both Te Huarahi Tika Trust, its commercial arm Hautaki and to some of the stakeholders I have met on the way.

I also want to ensure that there are no false rumors circulating around about my resignation.

Despite what some say, In my opinion Te Huaraki Tika Trust has achieved a lot for all New Zealanders by being a key player in the formation of 2 Degrees Mobile. There are some who say things could have been done differently, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I have had the chance to work alongside, and inherit the work of some extraordinary committed individuals in Te Huarahi Tika Trust who are unsung hero’s of the Maori telecommunications industry. The initial $5 million it was given by the government of the day to invest in telecommunications, despite this being a near impossible task.

My decision to resign was not about the organisation, the people or the new Health and Safety Act, but was about my need for new challenges and commitments in my professional life. I am following my passion by being more involved with my local hapū and tribal activities in Ngāi Tahu.
