ICANN – APRALO

The past week of ICANN meetings has been very productive from an Asia Pacific point of view.

The most significant achievements for APRALO was the amendment of the By Laws allowing greater decision making and the election of a new leadership team. Myself elected as Chairperson for 2 years, Les Allison of PICISOC in Fiji as a Vice Chair for one year and Mahmoud A. Lattouf of Gordon as second Vice chair for a period of 2 years.

As the newly elected chair, I then re-appointed ISOC Hong Kong as the secretariat who join other officers from Australia, Vietnam, India and China – thus ensuring a wide ranging representative leadership model for the Asia Pacific region.

The leadership team all contribute essential skills and experience to the APRALO. Our future will be focused on improving membership building, consultation responses from the AP region and multilingualism.

Immediately after the elections we made a number of key operational changes as a result of membership demands. There are a number of larger changes that require strategic planning and implementation. However, I believe the APRALO will be a unique leader within the ICANN structure.

In my humble opinion, APRALO is one of the few Asia Pacific representative Internet organsiations that have such a regionally representative leadership team.
